Fourways Residential Home

We know that routine and structure are important in our residents’ lives. We have a programme of activities with a range of specially organised events, shows and pastimes. This ensures that every week has a comfortable level of variety. Jocelyn, our activity coordinator, runs activities two - three afternoons a week at Fourways. Staying busy is so vital for physical and emotional well-being, not only does she run activities herself, she also organises the activities for the entire month including a range of activities to suit all preferences. Our activities range from arts and crafts to swimming in the sea, we’re confident you’ll never be bored here! 

Recently we have had performers from local areas to perform for all of us at Fourways, this included a Harpist, singers and poets. Music is often considered 'medicine for the mind', it reduces anxiety and depression, also improves memory. We have seen that after a performance the atmosphere in the room is lifted but songs also remind individuals of certain memories, sparking conversation where they share their experiences.

We know how important it is for individuals to keep active, twice a month we have a local personal trainer from Excercise in Care join us to give a chair based fitness class, which is open to all abilities. For those that want to do more Excercise in Care also does one to one sessions with our residents before the group session.

Every day we have an afternoon tea trolley going round at 3pm, offering a selection of drinks, cakes and fresh fruit but we know that some people love to make and experiment with food. Jocelyn arranges a 'Make, bake, eat' class, where she takes ideas from the group of what they would like to make and she assists them to make it, then we all enjoy the rewards! We love to celebrate all the different cultures we have at Fourways by having taster days with food and items from different countries, we recently enjoyed an Indian day. We enjoy being adventurous and trying new things, which stimulates the brain.

If painting, drawning or art activities is an interest of yours, Fourways has their very own art studio located at the front of our home, the studio is equipped with easels, large windows allowing natural lighting, comfortable chairs, call bell system, and heating to allow all year round use.

Every month we have a residents meeting where residents give us feedback and also let us know what they would like to do. Every month we do a big trip out, so in the meeting we will ask the residents where they would like to go. We have been to Dartmoor and had a picnic, We have been to Exmouth seafront and had a swim in the sea, we have been to craft fairs, opening events, Christmas trips and many more!

Every year we like to hold an event at Fourways, a summer party, dog show or celebrating a wordly event, we also like to raise money for local charity during these events. In 2023/24 we raised £2,500 to provide our local community with a defibrilator. This has now been installed outside our community care office. In summer 2024 we held a garden party and raised £209 for a local charity 'Chic Rocks Sidmouth' who are planning to build a permenant ramp onto Sidmouth beach, something we will enjoy using once built. 

Every resident will receive an activities calendar for the month, if you’ve taken a look through our list of upcoming activities and nothing catches your eye, don’t worry. Our dedicated activities team will get to know you and find out what’s important to you. Their task is then to devise an activity, big or small, that they know you’ll enjoy. We are open to all new activities and ideas, putting you at the heart of everything we do. 

We have our own Fourways news letter this is produced and given to our residents monthly, in the newsletter we include, recent events, upcoming events, birthdays, quizzes to complete and much more.
